01 / Origin - A different route
No perfect plan
I didn't have a plan for getting into this industry. I left a university environment that didn't suit how I learnt and found another route through editing. I started filming student and nightlife events, travelling between Manchester and Liverpool for the work.
02 / Learning on the job
Learning to read the room
Those events taught me how to do the job. I learnt to read people and work with the light in front of me. When things moved quickly or changed without warning, I had to make a decision and keep shooting.
03 / Finding my feet
My first paid work
My first paid opportunity was around £150. Event jobs led to touring, commercial work and editorial campaigns. By the end of university, I was using films I'd made for clients as part of my dissertation. I graduated with a first.
04 / Building sustainably
A career I can keep doing
Saying yes to work helped me get better and build confidence. It also taught me to look beyond the next booking. These days, I think about which projects suit me, who I'm working with and how much energy I have. I want the business to leave room for the rest of my life too.
